Mark Zahra is a great jockey but even he would have no trouble admitting his ride on Samuel Longhorne here last start was far from his best. It was a flat out certainty beaten after struggling to find clear running for the entire straight and flashing home late. It was the run of a progressive stayer and he can make amends here – with a different jockey in the saddle.

Flambeur is no doubt the value in this 3000m contest. Things just didn’t unfold for him when stepping up to this trip last time at Moonee Valley but he stuck on well. Hopefully with a cleaner getaway here he can lead or be right up there, and at peak fitness now he should take plenty of catching.

Ersa resumes here after an excellent first preparation which included a nine length maiden win and a fourth placing in the G3 Carbine Club. The Hayes trained filly has jumped out really well for this, pinning the ears back and hitting the line hard in her most recent hitout at Flemington. Suspect she is pretty good and can win this.

There was absolutely no shame in Navy King’s last start tenth at Flemington. It was in the Inglis Classic which was tantamount to a group race with nineteen runners in the field. The Symon Wilde trained three year old had won his two previous starts in very good style and gets the services of Jamie Kah. Should be right on speed and hard to run down.
