Racing heads to Sale in Victoria’s Gippsland region on Wednesday but our best bet is a Victorian galloper up at Doomben.

The Freedman team is flying up in Queensland this winter and they have another excellent prospect here in Punch Lane. Clearly he is up there with a view to contesting some black type races and he is a gelding that flies fresh, having won two from three first up. This looks a winnable race to kick off his prep.

Surprised Indaza isn’t a comfortable favourite here off the back of an outstanding jumpout where she comfortably had the better of a pretty handy one in Spicy Margs. The Ciaron Maher trained filly had three runs over summer, the best of which was an excellent second placing at Moonee Valley behind Exceed The Dream, in a race where four of the five runners have subsequently won or placed in better class.

Arden Green was going along beautifully until last start at Caulfield where he was trapped wide but totally dropped out, getting beaten 30 lengths. Happily to look past that and go off his previous fifth placing at Flemington which was excellent form for a race of this kind.

Saufiana hails from the low profile Adam Hanley stable but the Tavistock filly is absolutely flying at present, coming off dominant back to back wins, the most recent of which came at this track. Expect her to lead and take catching once again.
