Racing Tips – Wednesday Best Bets for Canterbury and Sandown

Heavy going can be expected at Canterbury, while at Sandown, an improving soft surface is to be expected.

Best Bet

2. Lucky Decision
Sandown R4 (3:20pm)

Lucky Decision should be at peak fitness third up after two good runs at 1400m to start his prep. Getting out to 1800m, he returns to the same trip that saw him run second in the G2 Autumn Classic at Caulfield earlier this year. Well drawn, he meets a decent field here but should be too classy for them.

More Racing Tips

1. Silvanito
Canterbury R2 (2:00pm)

Silvanito was a good thing beaten first up on the Kensington track when held up for clear running at a vital stage in the straight. Hugh Bowman will need to be careful to avoid the same fate from barrier one but the extra trip looks ideal.

Recommended Price: $2.00
Confidence Level: 4/5

1. Beehunter/3. Fine Dane
Sandown R3 (2:45pm)

Keen to play two in the same race at big odds. Beehunter is a get back sprinter but he has run well at this track and trip before, and the Hillside track gives run on horses their chance. Fine Dane is a veteran sprinter who flies fresh and loves this track. At $17 and $18 respectively in early markets, they are certainly worth a gamble here.

Recommended Price: $9.00/$8.50
Confidence Level: 3.5/5

2. Kelvedon Road
Canterbury R5 (3:45pm)

Kelvedon Road was a terrific winner first up at Canberra and looks primed to record his first city win with blinkers going on for the first time. Expect him to sit closer in the run with the shades on and take all the beating in a moderate race.

Recommended Price: $3.50
Confidence Level: 4/5

7. Waltz On By
Sandown R5 (3:55pm)

Waltz On By was most unlucky when favourite in the Group 3 Quezette Stakes last start. Jamie Kah sat her on the leader’s back, but she never got a crack at the right time, eventually finishing sixth. Had she found clear air she would likely would have won, and at the very least placed. Back in grade, this looks a winnable race.

Recommended Price: $3.50
Confidence Level: 4/5

3. Duchess
Canterbury R7 (4:55pm)

Duchess is having her first start for new trainer Annabel Neasham and has the benefit of one of my favourite gear changes – glue on shoes, off. She wasn’t far off last time at Cranbourne and should still have plenty of race fitness. Neasham has a near 20% strike rate with runners having their first start with her since the start of last season.

Recommended Price: $6.50
Confidence Level: 3/5
