Racing Tips – Wednesday Best Bets for Balaklava and Sandown

Racing on Wednesday is at Sandown in Victoria and Balaklava in South Australia. Sandown should be soft while an upgrade to good is possible in SA.

Best Bet

9. Vermentino
Sandown R6 (3:55pm)

Vermentino was scratched from a winnable race at Geelong to run at Sandown and the Maher/Eustace stable clearly have an opinion of this gelding. He certainly brings excellent recent jumpout form and from barrier one, Ben Melham should have no problem finding front. A well deserved favourite.

More Racing Tips

11. Life Lessons
Sandown R3 (2:10pm)

Life Lessons won well first up at Moe, sitting on the speed then running through the line strongly. The mare maps to get the right run as well here in a race without much speed and with a query over the favourite (she is returning after a throat op) and a race fitness edge over the stablemate, the Peter Moody trained four year old looks the value.

Recommended Price: $5.50
Confidence Level: 3.5/5

7. Midnight Rush
Balaklava R2 (2:25pm)

Midnight Rush has trialled up really nicely leading into this. The Richard and Chantelle Jolly finished third in his most recent hit out, but was under very little pressure, especially compared to those who finished in front of him. The form out of the trial has stood up well. Expect the gelding to press forward and take all the catching.

Recommended Price: $2.70
Confidence Level: 4/5

2. Lord of Darkness
Balaklava R7 (5:20pm)

Lord of Darkness ran very well at his first start for new trainer Jordan Frew last start. This six year old has always had good ability and if Frew can get him back to anything like his old Victorian form, he is capable of winning this and more races in South Australia. The evidence of his first run is that he can.
