Recreant is flying this prep since joining the Dane Smith stable. The first two runs of his prep were wins, including a super performance here, before stepping up to the Ararat Cup and running a very honest third behind two in-form horses. Back in class, he has to carry the big weight but is going well enough to do so.

Smart Return comes off a smart debut run at Warrnambool but looks well placed to go one better. The locally trained filly found the 1000m a little short and raced a bit greenly, so expect her to have plenty of improvement still. This is an open race but she clearly has the ability.

Rubicon Crossing has been racing very well at Moonee Valley in both runs back from a spell and should be better suited here on this bigger track. She will need some luck from the inside draw but if she gets it will run over the top of them late. Class act.

It’s a two bet strategy in this year’s Jericho Cup – both of the Kiwi horses. Prismatic comes off a 5th placing in the Group 3 New Zealand Cup last time which is clearly the best form reference, while Nassak Diamond has been running well in shorter races and looks to run out the 4600m really strong. Campbell Rawiller also rides her which is a big advantage.
