Racing Tips – Saturday Best Bets for Hawkesbury, Morphettville and Mornington

Feature racing on Saturday heads to Hawkesbury and Mornington for their respective Cup days, while at Morphettville the RN Irwin Stakes is the feature.

Best Bet

1. Princess Grace
Hawkesbury R8 (3:40pm)

Princess Grace was excellent on her Australian debut in the Sapphire Stakes, making good ground to finish third and just peaking on her run late. Suspect from barrier one Nash Rawiller will have the ex-American mare right on the speed this time and if she finds anything like her best she should be too good for these. The prospect of a firmer surface won’t hurt.

Recommended Price: $3.50
Confidence Level: 4.5/5

More Racing Tips

11. Squad
Mornington R3 (1:25pm)

The market has this as a race in two and I think that’s right, but with the equal favourite here Ranveer not having raced in 18 months, Squad is the top pick. The gelding has been dominant in both starts this prep, showing good speed and kicking away with big margins. Should enjoy this track which suits those on pace.

Recommended Price: $3.50
Confidence Level: 3.5/5

2. Golden Crusader
Mornington R4 (2:00pm)

Leaders win 32% of races over 2000m at Mornington and more than 80% are won by horses that settle in the first four. One horse you can be certain will be on speed is Golden Crusader, who has led throughout to win his last two at Moonee Valley and Sandown, the latter by a decent margin. This is tougher, but he’s the one they all had to catch.

Recommended Price: $4.60
Confidence Level: 3.5/5

3. Waltz On By
Mornington R6 (3:20pm)

Waltz On By was quite dominant winning the Bendigo Guineas and should prove hard to beat in the Mornington equivalent. She has to step up an extra 200m in trip but that shouldn’t be a problem as she was strong through the line there. From barrier one, she can either lead or be at worst, leader’s back. Well placed here.

Recommended Price: $3.50
Confidence Level: 4/5

4. Just Folk
Hawkesbury R9 (4:20pm)

Very nearly made this my best bet and perhaps I should have. Just Folk is one of the most honest horses in work and has been terrific in both runs this prep despite having no luck in either. The gelding has won three from five third up, boasts a Group 2 win and second at WFA to Cascadian when racing in Sydney, and performs on any going. Can win at big odds.

Recommended Price: $5.00
Confidence Level: 4/5

6. Right You Are
Mornington R8 (4:35pm)

Right You Are has to step up to 2400m for the first time but comes in the right form to do that, having won five of his last six, running second to potential star White Marlin in the other one. Being out of Geelong Cup heroine Leica Ding he certainly has the pedigree to run the trip and his on pace racing style will be a real advantage.

Recommended Price: $5.00
Confidence Level: 3.5/5
