Racing Tips – Saturday Best Bets for Flemington and Rosehill

There is Group 1 racing in both states, with Flemington hosting the Australian Cup, while at Rosehill the HE Tancred Stakes takes centre stage.

Best Bet

3. Midtown Boss
Flemington R2 (12.45pm)

Midtown Boss is exceptionally well placed against this field. The gelding has placed second in his last three starts but the formlines have worked out very well, not least his last start second to subsequent G1 placegetter Johnny Rocker – giving him 4Kg. From barrier 17 Mark Zahra can keep him in clear air and let class prevail.

Recommended Price: $2.50
Confidence Level: 4.5/5

More Racing Tips

9. Lady Di Di
Flemington R1 (12.15pm)

Lady Di Di looks over the odds here. The mare was a scintillating winner first up at Cranbourne, showing a brilliant turn of foot to win easily. She has drawn inside down the straight which can be a blessing or a curse, but if things unfold then she is absolutely capable of winning this.

Recommended Price: $9.00
Confidence Level: 3/5

6. Katsu
Flemington R5 (2.30pm)

Katsu is a brilliant speedster who looks well placed in this 1000m contest. He comes back from a short spell, having won at stakes level over this track and trip first up over the summer. I really liked his most recent jumpout at Cranbourne where he comfortably held the favourite for this, What You Need.

Recommended Price: $3.00
Confidence Level: 4/5

1. Mr Brightside
Flemington R8 (4.15pm)

A lot has been said about the ride on Mr Brightside in the All Star Mile but whatever you think of it, he looks well placed to reverse the result. From barrier one Craig Williams can sit a lot closer in the run this time and the prospect of a genuinely run 2000m should play right into his hands. He’s the one to beat in the Australian Cup.

Recommended Price: $2.70
Confidence Level: 4/5

4. More Felons
Rosehill R8 (4.35pm)

There isn’t much between More Felons and Post Impressionist on their UK form (they finished 8th and 9th in an Ebor) but there is a huge discrepancy in the market between them. We all saw what Post Impressionist did last week but More Felons was also very impressive winning last start over 1900m – in a much deeper race. Jmac rides and will give him every chance from barrier two.

Recommended Price: $6.50
Confidence Level: 3/5

2. Major Beel
Flemington R9 (4.55pm)

Major Beel looks over the odds in this year’s Roy Higgins. He was entitled to fade late after leading them up at a brutal tempo in the Pakenham Cup and his effort to run seventh wasn’t that bad, especially given he was first up. Expect him to have taken much benefit from that and with a more conservative ride he is capable of being there at the business end.

Recommended Price: $26/7.00
Confidence Level: 3/5
