Sghirripa was beaten in the Newmarket last start but it was a total forgive run considering he was in the worst part of the track. His prior form was outstanding including a great run from last in the Oakleigh Plate and a win in the Standish Handicap. Back to his home track, he can run over them late.

The Astrologist is weighted to win here. The gelding who has won eight races and $2.8 million in prizemoney carries just 57Kg here and is actually getting weight from much lower rated horses. Two starts back he finished third in the Newmarket so while his best days may be behind him, he’s going well enough to win this.

Pulchritudinous won the NZ Oaks and has subsequently joined the Waterhouse/Bott stable – who have been known to improve a horse. The Kiwi three year old form has already stood up over this side of the Tasman and this doesn’t look like an especially strong edition of the Australasian Oaks.

Estriella looks a very worthy favourite for the Sangster Stakes. The Ciaron Maher trained filly couldn’t have been more impressive winning all three starts this prep and she has run time in the process. She will just need to navigate the wide draw but if she does so, can take out the Group 1 which seems her destiny.
