Racing Tips – Saturday Best Bets for Ballarat and Kembla

Racing heads to Ballarat on Saturday for Cup Day, while at Kembla Grange the $1 million ‘The Gong’ is being run and won. Kembla will be good while rain is forecast for Ballarat.

Best Bet

4. Nugget
Kembla R9 (5:20pm)

UK import Nugget made a terrific debut at Flemington over the Melbourne Cup Carnival, running a close second to the talented Detonator Jack. The Maher/Eustace stable have picked out this race for his second start and he should only be improved fitness wise. In a race where most have met their level, he looks a stand out bewt.

Recommended Price: $2.50
Confidence Level: 4.5/5

More Racing Tips

2. Ocean's Jen
Ballarat R1 (12:10pm)

Ocean’s Jen looks the clear value in the first at Ballarat. The Maher/Eustace trained mare was impressive winning first up at Moonee Valley and the stable are always hard to beat on their home deck. She will just need some luck from the draw, but we are getting an attractive price to find out.

Recommended Price: $9.00/3.00
Confidence Level: 3/5

4. Najem Suhail
Ballarat R4 (1:45pm)

Najem Suhail has struck some excellent form and looks good value here. The ex-South African comes off a last start second at Flemington during the carnival, having won in slick time at Sale the start prior. Expect Patty Moloney to press forward and take all the catching at nice odds.

Recommended Price: $6.00
Confidence Level: 3.5/5

2. Classy Jaybee
Kembla R4 (2:05pm)

Ex-Hong Kong galloper Classy Jaybee has been terrific in two runs since returning to Australia, winning first up at Newcastle before running a close second last time at Rosehill. Dropping back to the 1000m here should prove no obstacle and this looks a winnable race for a horse who clearly has more to offer in this country.

Recommended Price: $6.00
Confidence Level: 3.5/5

12. Parisian Dancer
Ballarat R6 (3:00pm)

NOTE: This bet is weather contingent.

If Parisian Dancer strikes a wet track here she will be extremely hard to beat. She struck a firmer track last time at Flemington and ran exceptionally well, for her. With five wins from eight starts on heavy ground though, we want at least soft ground to be backing her. If she gets it, on her home track, she looks a great chance.

Recommended Price: $5.50
Confidence Level: 3/5 (assuming soft ground)

11. A Very Fine Red
Kembla R7 (4:00pm)

A Very Fine Red returns north after a successful Melbourne campaign that saw her win at Caulfield before running well at Flemington over the carnival. This is a deep race but the prospect of a genuine tempo really suits her and she drops to just 51.5Kg after the claim for Tyler Schiller. Expect her to get back but be flying home late.

Recommended Price: $6.00
Confidence Level: 3.5/5

5. Grandslam
Ballarat R8 (4:20pm)

Grandslam looks well placed in the 2022 Ballarat Cup. The gelding did enough first up at Moonee Valley and over this trip – especially given the draw – should take a much more prominent position in running. While the half brother to Jameka doesn’t get beyond 2000m, expect him to be primed for this race.

Recommended Price: $7.00
Confidence Level: 3.5/5

9. Sky Lab
Kembla R8 (4:40pm)

Keen on Sky Lab in this year’s edition of The Gong. The Paul Perry trained gelding comes off a terrific first up run at Newcastle last week in The Hunter and the quick back up and increase in trip will suit. The gelding has always had super talent – he had form around Mo’unga, Montefilia and Think It Over earlier in his career – and this race has sets up to allow him to show it. At $26 in early markets he’s a great each way bet.

Recommended Price: $13/4.00
Confidence Level: 3/5
