Surprising that Air Assault didn’t open favourite here. The Justify gelding has clearly the best form of any runner in this race, and his first up run when caught three wide outside the leader in a much stronger race than this was full of merit. Jason Holder should press forward and take all the catching.

Alhambra Lad looks a great bet in this year’s Adelaide Cup. He comes out of some good runs in the Tassie Cups, especially a last start second in the Launceston version. There is very little speed here so he should be able to get across from the wide draw. He has always looked like he would run two miles and gets his chance here.

Grey River has drawn wide here but suspect by this time of the meeting it won’t be such a disadvantage. This is a classy mare on her day and she races particularly well fresh. Favourite Austmarr is talented but poorly weighted. The local mare looks a great chance of knocking her off.
