Racing Tips – Moir Stakes 2022 Runner-By-Runner Preview

Coolangatta - Magic Millions - Horse Racing Tips

The Moir Stakes is a Group 1 sprint over 1000m at Moonee Valley, to be run on Friday night at 9.15pm. The Moonee Valley 1000m course starts from a chute, with one sharp turn into the short home straight.

1. The Inferno (8)
J: Blake Shinn (58.5kg) T: Cliff Brown

Ran second in this race last year but was seemingly in better form then. Plus he is nearly assured to get back near last and that racing pattern simply has to be bet against.

2. Paulele (6)
J: James McDonald (58.5kg) T: John O'Shea

Won on debut over 1000m on this track almost two years ago and hasn’t been seen at the trip since. Quality sprinter whose trials have been on point but seems well enough found to my eye.

3. Rothfire (5)
J: Damian Lane (58.5kg) T: Rob Heathcote

Won the McEwen, the key lead up to this race and draws to get a nice run behind the speed. Trainer won this race three times with Buffering. Impossible to knock and near certain to be somewhere in the finish.

4. Zoustyle (9)
J: Damien Oliver (58.5kg) T: Tony Gollan

Has abundant early speed but hard to see him crossing from the wide draw. In fact, three wide no cover seems to me the most likely scenario. Hard to win from out there.

5. Malkovich (3)
J: Rachel King (58.5kg) T: Bjorn Baker

Another one with early toe who should be up there fighting for the lead. The last 100m is always the query with him and in this race, a big one.

6. Generation (2)
J: Mark Zahra (58.5kg) T: Maher/Eustace

Had every chance in a weaker field first up and even though he maps to get the run of the race, I couldn’t be on him.

7. Extremely Lucky (12)
J: Ben Melham (58.5kg) T: Will Clarken

Will need to run up to his name as he will almost certainly be back near last. Just not a horse I want to be on from there.

8. September Run (7)
J: Kerrin McEvoy (56.5kg) T: Chris Waller

Ran seventh in this last year. Very effective sprinter over slightly longer trips, but 1000m around this track is probably too slick for her. Should be finishing hard.

9. Bella Nipotina (11)
J: Craig Williams (56.5kg) T: Chris Waller

Won the Carlyon Stakes first up which is kind of the Aldi version of this race. Proven performer at this track and distance though and with luck she is definitely a winning hope.

10. Isotope (4)
J: Jye McNeil (56.5kg) T: Tony Gollan

Dropping in trip here doesn’t look to be a winning formula.

11. Mileva (10)
J: Daniel Moor (56.5kg) T: Phillip Stokes

Phillip Stokes has placed her very well up to this point but she is outclassed here.

12. Coolangatta (1)
J: Jamie Kah (56.5kg) T: Maher/Eustace

Disappointed a little first up according to the market but she should take good benefit from the run and I am not willing to give up on her just yet. From barrier one she should lead and that is a very advantageous position over this track and trip. Excellent value.

Best Bet

It’s a tough race with a plethora of winning chances but Coolangatta is the clear value here.
