There are only two jump races on Wednesday at the Bool but both have a lot of interest, in particular the time honoured Galleywood Hurdle.
Race 4 – Decron Dunroe BM120 Steeplechase
Quite a deep chase with a number of winning chances but the best value is the lightly raced Lord Pierro. The five year old has only had two hurdle starts, winning his debut at the the carnival last season. Trainer Paul Preusker has quickly switched him to the bigger fences, which makes sense as he is a magnificent jumper. Loved his trials, and I think he can measure up to this and in 12 months, maybe a Grand Annual. Great bet at double figure odds. Preusker didn’t have a great day on Day 1 which tempers confidence somewhat, but hopefully he can rebound here.
Strategy: Back Lord Pierro.
Race 6 – Galleywood Hurdle, 3200m
Great race, but one with limited betting appeal as I think the market as it is currently, is about right, with Saunter Boy even money and Blandford Lad double that price. Those two fought out the MJ Bourke at Pakenham but Saunter Boy gets a 4.5Kg weight swing in his favour here. Unless we get a major market swing, it’s not a race I can recommend a bet in. $2.50 for Saunter Boy or $5.00 for Blandford Lad are the prices I would want.
Strategy: No bet.
