Jumps racing is back for 2024! It’s a low key start to the season with three races on a Tuesday at Warrnambool, but there are some classy horses engaged including a potential champion in Teofilo Star.
Race 1 – Warrnambool Football Club Open Hurdle, 3200m
Winx used to go around $1.20 or $1.30, but you’re being asked to take a much shorter price about Teofilo Star. Not sure that’s sensible, notwithstanding the fact that he is a hugely promising prospect. Serenade The Stars is big overs at nearly $10. His last run on the flat was great (for him) and his form around the likes of Count Zero is excellent. If there is a chink in the armour of the favourite he will be the one to find it.
Strategy: Back Serenade The Stars.
Race 2 – Greene’s Bricks and Windows Maiden Hurdle, 3200m
Not a very strong maiden hurdle to kick off the season, but there is one prospect here I like and that is Gambu. He’s been excellent in all three trials with the first one where he really found the line well the pick. His next two have been a bit quieter but there’s nothing wrong with that. I couldn’t get Tarn’s Prince nearly as short as the market has him.
Strategy: Back Gambu.
Race 3 – ACME Rural Supplies Open Steeplechase, 3450m
This is a very good field for this time of year with some very smart types engaged. Police Camp, Instigator, Mighty Oasis and Nelson have all won or run well in good feature chases. I like Instigator here. He’s been a top hurdler for a couple of seasons and makes his chasing debut off the back of an excellent trial.
Strategy: Back Instigator.
