Punters are in for a treat on Tuesday at Hamilton with five jumping races to be run. The track is rated a Heavy 10 so wet trackers will be to the fore.
Race 1 – Ecycle Solutions Maiden Hurdle, 3500m
Interesting race and I think it’s more open than the market suggests, with half a dozen possible winning chances. The one I think is best value is The Rattlin’ Bog, he made a good debut at Warrnambool chasing home Teofilo Star and the strength of that form was made clear when Teofilo Star bolted in next time out at Sandown.
Strategy: Back The Rattlin’ Bog.
Race 2 – Hammonds Paints Maiden Hurdle, 3500m
True Marvel has been earmarked as a jumping prospect for a long time and he boasts outstanding flat form, including a second placing two starts ago in the Sydney Cup. At $1.55, I’ll just be watching.
Strategy: No bet.
Race 3 – Ecycle Solutions Hurdle, 3500m
Now the track has come up wet it really brings Twin Spinner into the race. The Patrick Payne trained gelding comes off a third at Sandown behind Teofilo Star last time out, admittedly it was a big margin but this is a much weaker race and he is a very attractive price now. Not sure if Bell Ex One has come up this prep but he is a huge price on his best form so I’ll be having something on him as well.
Strategy: Back Twin Spinner and Bell Ex One.
Race 4 – Charles Stewart & Co Maiden Steeplechase, 3400m
Interesting race. Tom Foolery ran an improved race in a maiden hurdle at Casterton last time out and steps up to the bigger fences. His most recent steeple trial was nothing short of spectacular though, albeit it was at Warrnambool, a very different track to this. Lord Pierro lost the rider early at Warrnambool, I still think he has a lot of potential as a chaser and won’t be letting him go around without some support here.
Strategy: Back Tom Foolery and Lord Pierro.
Race 5 – Eulong Steeplechase, 3400m
Castrofrancaru has been a brilliant winner of both his jumping starts over hurdles, it’s interesting that connections have taken him to the bigger fences already as I thought he has more to offer there. Nevertheless, he is a super promising jumper and while this is his stiffest test to date, it is one he looks capable of passing, particularly on the wet ground that he relishes.
Strategy: Back Castrofrancaru.
