Jumps Tips – Sunday Best Bets for Pakenham

Stern Idol - Jumps Racing Tips

Betseeker has you covered for free expert horse racing tips and best bets at Pakenham.

One of the key lead up meetings as we head towards the Grand Nationals will be run at Pakenham on Sunday, with six races on the jumps only card.

The track will be rated heavy.

Race 1 – Ecycle Solutions 0-114 Hurdle, 3200m

Point Nepean is the fascinating runner here. He was either Melbourne Cup favourite or close to it after winning the Andrew Ramsden in 2022 but obviously things have not gone to plan as he finds himself here. Looks a race in two between him and Wilewink that has limited betting appeal.

Strategy: No bet.

Race 2 – PB Ronald Memorial Maiden Hurdle, 3200m

Open race. Thought the value lied with Pearlman. He had no chance on debut at Warrnambool when way too far back in the field but he should appreciate this track and have the opportunity to build into the race. Not hard to see why the Patrick Payne pair, The Cunning Fox and Pearl Rain, are fancied.

Strategy: Back Pearlman.

4. Pearlman
Pakenham R2 (12.45pm)

Race 3 – Ecycle Solutions Maiden Hurdle, 3500m

Cadre Du Noir was disappointing at his two jumping starts last year but the Maher stable have persisted with him. His trials this time round have been excellent and Pateman rides. He’s the one I want to be with. Of the rest, the third of the Patrick Payne runners, Whiskey Tango, is the best value.

Strategy: Back Cadre Du Noir, take the quinella with Whiskey Tango.

1. Cadre Du Noir
Warrnambool R3 (1.20pm)

Race 4 – Brendan Dreschler Hurdle, 3500m

Looks a race in two between Alakahan and Prismatic. I think the latter is a deserved favourite. He couldn’t have been more impressive running away with the Lafferty at Warrnambool last time out and he comfortably held Alakahan when they met two back. Dubai Moon is the best of the rest.

Strategy: Back Prismatic.

3. Prismatic
Pakenham R4 (2.05pm)

Race 5 – Ecycle Solutions Maiden Steeplechase, 3500m

Blandford Lad is the best bet of the day. He’s just so well placed under set weight conditions and his best hurdle performances have come at this track. The only real danger is Cleaver, another handy hurdler having a crack at the bigger obstacles for the first time.

Strategy: Back Blandford Lad.

2. Blandford Lad
Pakenham R5 (2.45pm)

Race 6 – Mosstrooper Steeplechase, 3500m

Impossible to look past Stern Idol, but you can suit yourself at the $1.30 on offer.

Strategy: No bet.
