Week 9 of the NFL season kicks off on Thursday night with the Pittsburgh Steelers (4-3) hosting the Tennessee Titans (3-4) at Acrisure Stadium.
Best Bet
Expect points to be few and far between in this one.
The Titans started rookie QB Will Levis with success against the Atlanta Falcons last week but he is in for a much sterner test against the Steelers on Thursday Night Football.
Levis, a second round draft pick, threw four touchdowns and certainly exceeded expectations in a 28-23 win over the Atlanta Falcons.
Even without star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, the Steelers defence – which is a Top 10 ranked unit by DVOA – should be able to cause Levis a lot of problems.
Pittsburgh lost quarterback Kenny Pickett with injury last week against the Jaguars but he will be ready to go for this game.
Nevertheless it’s hard to have much faith in Pittsburgh’s offence. They have failed to pass for more than 228 yards all season, and Tennessee’s defence is coming off a six sack game against Atlanta last week.
Pittsburgh under Mike Tomlin in recent years have been a very strong under team, going under at a 60% clip since 2015. The under is 6-1 in Steelers games this season and 5-2 in Titans games.
Even if one offence can get going, it’s hard to see both getting warm enough to pass even this very low number.
Everything points to yet another low scoring Thursday Night Football game.
Same Game Multi
Pittsburgh should be able to do enough to get the win. Mike Tomlin has a 23-5 record against rookie quarterbacks as head coach of the Steelers.
Will Levis is an underrated scrambler and his legs are likely to be called upon here, while Derrick Henry has been excellent running the football once again this season and the Titans are likely to make him the focal point of their game plan.
Value Bet
As mentioned above, Levis is a decent runner of the football and it would not surprise if the Titans made use of that in the redzone.
