Super Bowl LVII Winner

Cincinnati Bengals
Super Bowl LVIII Winner

The Bengals have been knocking on the door to win it all and get their chance this season. With Joe Burrow on a rookie deal, the Bengals have been able to compose one of the most loaded rosters in the league, with a large amount of continuity from the side that made the Super Bowl in 2022 and the AFC Championship Game in 2023. They’ve also shown the ability to match it with, and beat, the Chiefs.

NFL Conference Winners

Cincinnati Bengals
AFC Winner

The AFC North is a loaded division but if the Bengals can get out of it, they can go all the way in the Conference. The star power is found on the offensive side of the ball with Burrow and Ja’marr Chase leading the way, but the depth of the defence – and the coaching of Lou Anarumo – means it is not one side of the ball doing all of the heavy lifting in Cincinnati.

Seattle Seahawks
NFC Winner

Geno Smith showed last year that he is capable of being an elite quarterback in the NFL. If he brings that form once again the Seahawks are right in this. Having nailed the 2022 draft, the offensive line and secondary are capable of being two of the best units in the league. They have to top the 49ers in the division, but San Fran still have a big query at QB, and Pete Carroll boasts an impressive overall record against the Niners.

AFC Division Winners

Buffalo Bills
AFC East Winner

Understandably all the hype is around Aaron Rodgers and what he can do for the Jets, but the Bills deserve to be the favourites for the division they have owned in recent years. Last year’s campaign ultimately came unstuck due to injuries and peaking at the wrong time, but every year the Bills have Josh Allen at QB, they are the team to beat in this division.

Cincinnati Bengals
AFC North Winner

The North is an intriguing division this year but the Bengals are still the team to beat. There is plenty of intrigue as to how the Browns and Steelers will go in their second season with their new quarterbacks, Deshaun Watson and Kenny Pickett, while the Bengals return Lamar Jackson but have a new playcaller in Todd Monken, who might be able to return number eight to MVP form.

Jacksonville Jaguars
AFC South Winner

The Jags exceeded all expectations last season by winning a playoff game and while there are questions over the depth and balance of their roster, they certainly look the team to be in a weak AFC South. The Texans (CJ Stroud) and Colts (Anthony Richardson) are both starting rookie quarterbacks, while in Tennessee, coach Mike Vrabel should never be underestimated but he doesn’t have much talent to work with.

Kansas City Chiefs
AFC West Winner

Kansas City have won this division for the last seven years and as long as Patrick Mahomes is the quarterback, they should remain favourite every year. The team that should be challenging them is the LA Chargers, but the combination of head coach Brandon Staley and offensive co-ordinator Kellen Moore does not inspire confidence. The Broncos and Raiders are a mile off.

NFC Division Winners

Philadelphia Eagles
NFC East Winner

In last year’s preview we tipped the Eagles to win the division in spite of Jalen Hurts – he was a major reason they won it, and a major reason while they are the team to beat again. The former second round pick led his team to the Super Bowl last season and was outstanding in defeat. The Cowboys are the next closest, but still appear a tier down, while the Giants overachieved last season and Washington is not going anywhere with Sam Howell at QB.

Minnesota Vikings
NFC North Winner

The Detroit Lions are the fashionable pick to win this division, and they certainly closed off last season strongly with eight wins from their last ten games. Nevertheless the Vikings – who admittedly were flattered by their 13-4 record – look the value in this division. The Packers have to get used to life after Aaron Rodgers, while the Bears will go as far as QB Justin Fields can take them (not very, in my opinion).

Carolina Panthers
NFC South Winner

This has a chance to be the worst division in football. The Bucs are in post-Brady hell. The Saints are only getting older coming off a 7-10 season. The Falcons are running with last season’s 3rd round pick at QB. The Panthers are the value here. QB aside, they have the most complete roster in the NFC South, and if number one draft pick Bryce Young can come in and play at a decent level – and he is viewed as a high floor prospect – it would be no surprise to see them take out the division.

Seattle Seahawks
NFC West Winner

There is a lot of assumption in the 49ers price that Brock Purdy – with five career starts under his belt – is going to come in and play at a high level. Maybe he will – and he has the pieces around him to help – but it’s a bold assumption. The Seahawks look very hard to beat here. They’ve generally played the Niners well in the Pete Carroll era, and while they have a tough schedule to cope with, it’s one they can overcome.
