A couple of old heads have started this season above expectation. Both bets have involved an off season trade that has allowed them to flourish.
Best Bet
Portland Trail Blazers @ San Antonio Spurs (12:10pm)
CP3 is ageing like a fine wine. The now 39 year old has been rejuvenated by the trade to San Antonio. Playing alongside Victor Wembenyama is enticing for any point guard and Paul is reaping the rewards.
He has averaged 11.8 points and 8.3 assists over this young season. Add to that an unexpected 4.0 rebounds per game and you can see the line is close. Last game against Houston was a blowout, over by half time, thankfully Paul will be fresher for it after playing less than 20 minutes. Unfortunately, these games may still happen this season for this young Spurs outfit but here they start favourite against an average Portland side.
When Paul has played 30+ minutes this season he has a double double in each game and PRA totals of 32,30 and 36. With a broken thumb sidelining teammate Jeremy Sochan and Devin Vassell still unavailable, Paul will need to go 30+ here.

Minnesota Timberwolves @ Chicago Bulls (12:10pm)
Big Vuc has started this season on fire and is clearly enjoying the usage that has been freed up from Demar Derozan’s departure. After 8 games the big fella is averaging 20.8 points per game and has cleared this line 7/8. The one game that went under was a blowout loss against Dallas where he only played 25 minutes.
Coming up against Rudy Gobert and the Timberwolves wont intimidate Vucevic who doesn’t mind stretching the floor and shooting the outside shot. Gobert is a stay at home defender and wants to camp inside the key and make things hard for teams on the drive. Vucevic has averaged 4.5 attempts from 3 and is shooting a career best 45.7%.
But its not just from outside, he is currently shooting 56.1% from the field and 95.7% from the free throw line. These are crazy numbers and all well above his career averages. Let’s ride the heater and hope he can continue his amazing personal jump.

Value Bet
Utah Jazz @ Milwaukee Bucks (12:10pm)
I don’t think anybody pegged the Bucks to be 1-6 at this point in the season and its almost time for panic stations. The good news is they play Utah who arguably don’t want to win and are also 1-6.
Giannis is a game time decision and I will be waiting to see him confirmed before backing this one. The Bucks are a better team than what they have shown thus far, and I don’t expect them to hang around for long in this one. Look for the Greek Freak and Dame Time to get this thing out of reach early and begin rebuilding their shaky season start.
