All Star Game - NBA Tips

Will LeBron make history with another All Star MVP trophy? Don’t miss out on our best bets for the weekend including the 3-Point Contest.

Karl-Anthony Towns
3-Point Contest

Won this event just two years back where he went at 72.5% with a score of 29 in the Final.

Karl-Anthony Towns has made it fairly clear that he believes he’s the greatest shooting big of all-time, so he certainly prides himself in events like these.

Lillard will look to go back-to-back but this hasn’t been done in 16 years, while from catch and shoot this season he’s go the worst percentage of all competitors at just 32.8%. KAT has shot the third most amount of catch-and-shoot triples this season going at 43.8% – an event like this is perfect for the big man with his simple action, so the $7 is a nice price to win his second title.

These aren’t the easiest things to pick in games that are a bit of a mess around, but the West is stacked with a bunch of competitors.

They may start slowly with their starting group consisting of Luka and Jokic, but the likes of AD, Edwards and Booker off the bench well and truly has the East covered that features a whole heap of rookie All Stars in Paolo Banchero, Scottie Barnes, Tyrese Maxey and Jalen Brunson.

Assuming the game is close, expect LeBron to close and cement a West win in an attempt to further build his legacy.

Process of elimination – who wins the game and who cares about it. I expect the West to win – they’re clearly the better roster and although that doesn’t mean for much in the All Star Game, the West bench has some incredibly competitive types including Booker and Edwards.

Starters have dominated this award winning the All Star MVP in 18 of the last 19 games, so now we’re down to five. Luka and Jokic genuinely don’t care about this – in the five All Star games the Joker has played his highest score is 10 points, while Luka has played in four games and is yet to record double figures.

Everything points to LeBron. It’s All Star Game number 20 for King James, and if he wins another All Star MVP that will tie him as the most of all-time along with Kobe and Bob Pettit at 4. LeBron is the youngest player to ever win the All Star MVP and if he wins this All Star MVP, he was also hold the record as the oldest winner ever. The King is my main bet, but SGA is averaging 31.1 points per game this season and can light it up so consider a saver for the Thunder Guard at $14.

Few know the NBA like Dale, who has spent years backing winners for punters across a number of publications and podcasts. He also specialises in tennis and AFL.
