AFL Tips – GWS Giants v Carlton – Round 17 2024

GWS Giants vs Carlton Blues - AFL Tips

The Giants host the Blues at Engie Stadium on Saturday night with the expansion club desperate for a win to get their season back on track.

Best Bet

Carlton -5.5
Line

The Blues look the bet of the weekend against a Giants team who are just about cooked.

After winning their first five games of the year, GWS have lost seven of ten to slip outside the top eight. When they’ve lost, they’ve lost big too, failing to cover the line in any of their seven defeats with only one coming by fewer than 16 points.

They are an appalling bet at home against good opposition, winning and covering in just two of twelve against top eight teams in Western Sydney or Canberra.

Carlton, meanwhile, have covered in 12 of 15 on the road and are closing in premiership favouritism, coming off five straight wins and five straight covers with an average winning margin of 48 points.

Sam Taylor will be missing for the Giants, as he was in their loss to Carlton in Round 6 when Harry McKay and Charlie Curnow combined for an inaccurate 6.6. Star mid Josh Kelly is also out this week while Tom De Koning could return for the visitors.

There is simply no case to be made for the Giants. Chips in Carlton.
