The Melbourne Cup is the highlight of racing on Tuesday but there is plenty of value to be found on the undercard, where big fields are engaged all day.

If Vauban brings his best form he is the one they will find enormously difficult to beat. He is one of the best stayers in the world and this is not a strong edition of the Cup. Trainer Willie Mullins has changed his approach from last year and if the right lessons have been applied, with 55.5Kg he is weighted to win.

Apulia was terrific first up at Moonee Valley in the Vobis Gold Star, running a narrow second placing in what looks to be a strong race. With clear running earlier he may have won. Getting out to 1800m second up is ideal, and out in trip he can sit a little closer in the run. From barrier five and with 56.5Kg Mark Zahra will give him every chance.

Kiwi import Chattahoochee looks nice value in this race restricted to greys only. He comes off a last start third behind Mustang Valley who is a very smart galloper and he looks to be well weighted here given his record. Craig Williams just needs some luck from the draw. The gelding typically raced on speed at home so expect the same here.

Manolo Bling looks well suited in this race down the straight. The Anthony and Sam Freedman trained filly ran well here in Listed company back in September and the form out of that race has been excellent. From barrier nine Ben Melham has options either side.

Ahuriri won the St Leger over the 2800m trip back in April and she has certainly raced as though she wants every inch of that trip. She hit the line well last time at Warwick Farm over 2400m and gets a nice drop in weight here. From the Chris Waller stable which is absolutely firing at present.

This is a handy race but thought that despite the wide draw, Supercilious was over the odds here. She stormed home from near last just ten days ago at Moonee Valley and will relish getting out to 1400m on her home track. The pace should be on, look for her flying home late.

This race sets up really nicely for Miss Aria. The pace should be on early and as she is a filly with a big finish on her, Blake Shinn can just position midfield from barrier three stalk the speed and produce her late. Recent form in races like the Blazer and Tristarc reads well for this.
