Jumps Tips – Sunday Best Bets for Casterton

We’re back at Casterton Racecourse for the final time this season for three jumping races. As always, the highlight will be the steeplechase over the live hedges.

Race 1 – Ecycle365 Maiden Hurdle, 3500m

Looks a race in two between Schabau and Cadre Du Noir. There is a real question mark over Cadre’s jumping when put under pressure so at a track where that is a premium, that puts Schabau on top for me, and he is clearly the value in the race.

Strategy: Back Schabau.

6. Schabau
Casterton R1 (12.38pm)

Race 2 – Finns Fine Foods Hurdle, 3500m

Freddy The Eagle beat Bazini comfortably on the flat when they met on Tuesday but I wouldn’t be surprised if the latter turned the tables here over jumps. Certainly that’s where the value lies, with Maatsuyker the obvious other danger.

Strategy: Back Bazini.

3. Bazini
Casterton R2 (1.00pm)

Race 4 – Moredun Hill Steeplechase, 3800m

The locally trained Mustang Harry can cause a minor upset here. He’s never raced over the live hedges but being trained here I am sure he will have seen plenty of them. The last start third at Warrnambool is a solid form reference and he does boast a win over Brungle Bertie over fences a couple of years back. With 65Kg he can give this a big shake.

Strategy: Back Mustang Harry.

3. Mustang Harry
Casterton R4 (2.38pm)
