1. The Masters is won by the Elite
The last 10 winners have all ranked inside the Top 30 when winning at Augusta.
2. Longshots Don’t Win at Augusta
Charl Schwartzel was the last winner of The Masters to pay north of $101. That was back in 2011.
3. Augusta Favours the Young
Tiger Woods in 2019 is the only Masters winner this century over the age of 40. Though Jordan Spieth and Scottie Scheffler are the only two winners in the last 13 aged under 27.
4. Experience Counts
The last debutant winner to claim The Masters Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979. Most have played at least five Masters.
5. Don’t Discount Course Form
Augusta is a relatively unique course so those who have a good record here tend to lift. Nearly every winner had at least one previous Top 40 on the course.
6. Look to Riviera
There is a clear correlation between Augusta and Riviera, home of the Genesis Invitational. Bubba Watson, Dustin Johnson, Adam Scott … the list goes on.
7. Recent Form is a Quality Guide
Multiple Top 10s in the year leading up have been a constant among winners of The Masters. Most have a win to their name.
8. Par 4 Birdie or Better is the Most Important Stat
Looking for those that can score on Par 4s has consistently been the best guide to success at Augusta.
9. Scramblers Fare Well
Scrambling is critical to succeeding at Augusta with the greens renowned for being difficult to hit.
10. Irons Not Drivers
Augusta is a second shot course. Distance off the tee is important but accuracy with irons is significantly more important.
