Racing Tips – Might and Power Stakes 2022 Runner-By-Runner Preview

Alligator Blood

The Might and Power has attracted a terrific field with the top four in betting for the Cox Plate lining up. The race will be held over 2000m at Caulfield under weight for age conditions, at 3.50pm on Saturday.

1. Zaaki (7)
J: Jamie Kah (59kg) T: Annabel Neasham

Disappointed a touch in the Underwood but he did have excuses. Jumping from 1400m to 1800m, and going from heavy going back to a firm surface mate his task a difficult one. I am still confident that the best version of him is as good as anything in this field.

2. I'm Thunderstruck (1)
J: Mark Zahra (59kg) T: Price/Kent

Hit the line well in the Underwood after getting a long way back in the field. That’s his racing pattern so expect the same here. Barrier one is probably no help, and while he is a winning hope, he seems about the right price for mine.

3. Alligator Blood (5)
J: Tim Clark (59kg) T: Waterhouse/Bott

Went too hard in the Makybe Diva and was run down late, but bounced back in the Underwood with a perfectly rated ride. Should press forward again and take some catching, but still a small risk at the 2000m for mine.

4. Mr Brightside (4)
J: Craig Williams (59kg) T: Ben & JD Hayes

Flat out disappointing in the Underwood and impossible to have here off the back of that effort.

5. Mo'unga (6)
J: Damien Oliver (59kg) T: Chris Waller

Turned his form around by sticking on well to finish second in the Underwood. Suspect that if the others bring their best form, he is a top four show at best, but he has some hope.

6. Nonconformist (2)
J: Jordan Childs (59kg) T: Grahame Begg

Didn’t fire a shot in the Underwood and probably better suited in the Caulfield Cup, the race he finished second in last year.

7. Anamoe (3)
J: James McDonald (58kg) T: James Cummings

Comes up a short priced favourite here but I question the strength of the fields he has been beating in Sydney. Be clear, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he won, but he is being priced as if he has a clear class edge on the field and I am not convinced that is the case.

8. Benaud (6)
J: Damian Lane (58kg) T: John O'Shea

Intriguing runner with blinkers going on for the first time, but even so the best case scenario for him is running on into a place with a view to the Caulfield Cup next week.

Best Bet

Happy to stick with Zaaki and $5.00 in early markets is a good price.
