Racing Tips – Saturday Best Bets for Mornington and Rosehill

The Group 1 Golden Rose is the highlight of racing at Rosehill, while the traditional Grand Final day card is being run at Mornington.

Best Bet

2. Startantes
Rosehill R7 (3:25pm)

Startantes was a Group 1 winner two starts ago in Queensland and looks poised to claim another feature in this year’s Golden Pendant. The Rob Heathcote mare gets back in her races but with plenty of speed here – especially drawn wide – it should set up for something coming over the top. She did enough first up over 1200m, and 1400m second up is the perfect scenario for her.

Recommended Price: $5.00
Confidence Level: 4/5

More Racing Tips

2. Alcyone
Rosehill R3 (1:05pm)

Alcyone is getting out in trip and looks ideally suited to this race. The Godolphin galloper has been running well in shorter trips and 1900m is nearly his optimum journey. Sam Clipperton will give him every chance from the inside draw, expect him to sit on the leader’s back and pounce late.

Recommended Price: $5.00
Confidence Level: 3/5

4. Narvaez
Mornington R5 (2:30pm)

Narvaez won last start over this track and distance and should go close to repeating the dose. The Waterhouse/Bott trained gelding is a natural leader, and should be able to find the front with some key rivals drawn out wide. That can prove decisive at a track which is notorious for favouring leaders.

Recommended Price: $4.80
Confidence Level: 3.5/5

5. London Point
Mornington R6 (3:05pm)

Expecting the pace here to be strong and that might give the backmarker London Point a chance to run over the top. Admittedly the import’s jump outs have been only fair, but her two wins from two starts in New Zealand were most impressive. If she brings that form, she is capable of winning this.

Recommended Price: $8.00/2.70
Confidence Level: 3/5

8. Impulsar
Mornington R7 (3:45pm)

Impulsar was grossly disappointing last start in Sydney but if you go on his prior form, he would be winning this. Given he comes from the top stable for training stayers in this country – Ciaron Maher and David Eustace – I am prepared to forgive that last run. Expect Ethan Brown to lead and take all the catching.

Recommended Price: $3.50
Confidence Level: 3.5/5

3. Jacquinot
Rosehill R8 (4:05pm)
15. She's Extreme
Rosehill R8 (4:05pm)

Keen to be with two runners in the 2022 Golden Rose. The Victorian visitor Jacquinot has long shaped as the ideal 1400m type horse and he was dominant first up, while She’s Extreme was a superb two year old who had no luck first up. Both can win here at nice odds against a favourite, In Secret, that looks too short.

Recommended Price: $5.00/7.00
Confidence Level: 4/5

11. Old Flame
Rosehill R9 (4:50pm)

Old Flame was super impressive first up and the import looks capable of taking out a Group race here. The Peter and Paul Snowden trained five year old carries just 53.5Kg under the handicap here and that can prove the difference for him. The pace should be decent up front and Tommy Berry can fly over them late.

Recommended Price: $4.60
Confidence Level: 4/5
