Racing Tips – George Main Stakes 2022 Runner-By-Runner Preview

Zaaki - Expert Horse Racing Tips

It’s a vintage George Main headlined by the first and second favourites for the Cox Plate, Anamoe and Zaaki. Could there be an upset however?

UPDATE: With Zaaki scratched, our best bet has changed.

1. Zaaki (7)
J: Tommy Berry (59kg) T: Annabel Neasham

SCRATCHED

2. Maximal (9)
J: Sam Clipperton (59kg) T: John O'Shea

Nice horse on his day but first up here and looks like picking up minor money at best.

3. Anamoe (8)
J: James McDonald (58.5kg) T: James Cummings

Big time firmer following the scratching of Zaaki and now one for the the thrill seekers at $1.70. Won’t be playing at that price.

4. Converge (10)
J: Tim Clark (58.5kg) T: Waterhouse/Bott

Ran Anamoe to a neck in the Randwick Guineas over this course and distance in the autumn so his best is good enough. Didn’t fire a shot first up, but could be a big improver.

5. Profondo (2)
J: Brenton Avdulla (58.5kg) T: Annabel Neasham

Had massive wraps on him following last year’s Spring Champion Stakes win but has failed to live up to them. Happy to risk.

6. Duais (5)
J: Joshua Parr (57kg) T: Edward Cummings

Didn’t fire a shot first up in Melbourne and probably needs longer than a mile to be winning against this class of horse. Pass.

7. Montefilia (6)
J: Jason Collett (57kg) T: David Payne

Staying mare who will need further than this and concedes a race fitness edge.

8. Icebath (4)
J: Not Nominated (57kg) T: Brad Widdup

Scratched from Newcastle on Friday for this. Capable but would likely need a Heavy 10 to run into the place money.

9. Fangirl (3)
J: Hugh Bowman (56.5kg) T: Chris Waller

If there is to be an upset she is the one to cause it. Ran very well behind Anamoe first up, but even so, hard to see her turning the tables unless there is bad luck or exceptional circumstances.

10. Hinged (1)
J: Kerrin McEvoy (56.5kg) T: Chris Waller

Blinkers go on for the first time which could spark improvement. Looks a good chance for the wider exotics if not a winning chance.

Best Bet

Converge has each way appeal following the scratching of Zaaki.
